AP ENGLA&CP1: 3
Instructor: Ried
The course is organized in units based on rhetorical modes and author’s stylistic choices within specific modes. For each unit, there will be a major text and several supporting texts that exemplify the rhetorical mode. Students can expect to read and analyze texts, focusing on the author’s style and use of rhetorical strategies (always including diction and syntax), and respond to them in both informal and formal writing exercises. Class will focus on discussing the structure and components of rhetorical modes and on analyzing the assigned texts in terms of the author’s stylistic choices and use of rhetorical strategies. In the second semester, students will also practice taking multiple-choice tests and timed writings that prepare them for the AP test.
